Our Story
Goodworks Place was created with a simple vision: to foster gathering, community, collaboration, and shared ideas. We think of the space as a “living room”—a place where people feel welcomed, comfortable, and at home. Founded in 2018, Goodworks Place offers Missoula nonprofits a free space to meet, exchange ideas, host fundraisers, and bring the community together. Since its inception, Goodworks Place has welcomed more than 100 organizations and supported over 1,000 events.

Goodworks Place was founded by Mary Stranahan, along with Goodworks Ventures and the High Stakes Foundation. After attending the Play Big Conference in 2006, Mary made a commitment to put a significant portion of her inherited resources to work in support of people creating positive change in Montana. In the for-profit arena, she focuses on triple bottom line investments; through the High Stakes Foundation, her nonprofit work centers on rural economic development, leadership development, and environmental policy. Mary is a passionate lover of place—and her tennis game benefits from a wicked backspin. Learn more about Mary’s story here.
